- GENERAL DYNAMICS WINS
1998 GOVERNMENT TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP AWARD
-

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - General Dynamics Land Systems' Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) Program has been selected as a winner of Government Executive Magazine's 1998 Government Technology Leadership Award for its Virtual Design Database.

The Government Technology Leadership Award is given annually to information technology projects that have directly aided in the missions of their organizations by boosting efficiency and effectiveness, lowering costs, and/or improving service to the public, through original uses of technology.

General Dynamics' AAAV Program was selected along with 19 other programs from over 200 nominated projects throughout the Federal Government. The program is operated out of General Dynamics Land Systems' AAAV Technology Center located in Woodbridge, Virginia. The award was presented December 1, 1998, during a ceremony at the Reagan International Trade Center.

The AAAV is the Marine Corps' next-generation amphibious vehicle capable of transporting 18 Marines and a crew of three over water at speeds in excess of 29 mph. Once on land, the AAAV can achieve speeds up to 45 mph where it assumes the role of a fast and agile armored personnel carrier alongside the Abrams tank.

General Dynamics is providing the design, virtual prototyping, systems integration, fabrication and testing of up to three prototype vehicles for the Marines by 2001. Delivery of more than 1,000 production vehicles is scheduled to begin in 2005. With the potential for international sales, total program value may exceed $5 billion.

General Dynamics Land Systems, a subsidiary of General Dynamics Corporation, is a world leader in the development, production, and support of land and amphibious combat vehicles. Its 3,500 employees operate plants and facilities in seven states and at three international locations.
