ROBOTIC VEHICLE TECHNOLOGIES CONTRACT -
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. General Dynamics Land Systems has received a contract from the United States Tank-automotive and Armaments Command to conduct a nine month concept design study on robotic vehicle technologies. The $222,000 contract funds the study of the development of promising robotic or robotic compatible ground-mobility platforms weighing from one-half ton to twenty-four tons. Primary emphasis will be on lighter classes in the .5 to 1.5 ton range.
"This program will allow General Dynamics Land Systems to apply its conceptual, mobility, and systems integration expertise to the unique world of unmanned, high-mobility platform concepts," said Jim Pond, Land Systems manager of Advanced Concepts. Both mid-term and Army After Next directions will be addressed in support of Tank-automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center initiatives. The contract work is being performed at Land Systems Muskegon Technical Center in Muskegon, Michigan, with the existing work force.
