- GENERAL DYNAMICS AND UAW
REACH TENTATIVE AGREEMENT -

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. --- General Dynamics Land Systems and the United Automobile Workers reached a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement for employees in three states.

Completing early negotiations last weekend, company and UAW negotiators reached a tentative agreement for a new 52 month (April 1997- October 2001) collective bargaining agreement. The UAW’s National Bargaining Committee unanimously approved the tentative agreement.

The agreement would cover UAW workers in General Dynamics plants in Sterling Heights, Michigan; Lima, Ohio; and Eynon, Pennsylvania. The current agreement would have expired in June 1997.

Details of the new agreement were approved by the UAW’s leadership council this week which recommended that it be submitted for a ratification vote by the entire membership this month.

"We had a positive negotiation session with the UAW that lead to a positive outcome for all parties,’’ said Patrick J. Sullivan, General Dynamics Land Systems Vice President - Human Resources and Administration. "The agreement provides the UAW job security commitments in return for cooperation on cost control initiatives. When ratified by the UAW membership it will cement our mutual commitment to achieving a competitive advantage in the combat vehicle segment of the defense industry."

"Job security is of paramount importance and we have achieved it during these negotiations," said Jack Laskowski, Vice President and Director UAW General Dynamics department. "We look forward to a secure and profitable future together."
