Background Information:

General Dynamics is reopening its Imperial County facility and plans to employ up to 100 people within the first 12 months. The 65,000 square foot facility had been home to General Dynamics' Convair unit since 1990. Operations were suspended in November 1995 after the completion of Convair's subcontract work on the McDonnel Douglas MD-11 aircraft.

Initially, General Dynamics will use the facility for Egyptian kitting and as a second source for cable assemblies and other services for its Land Systems business. Later, the Imperial facility will perform other assembly and fabrication work for General Dynamics' Electric Boat and Bath Iron Works businesses. The Imperial facility performance is expected to be of high quality, meet schedule needs, and be a competitive low cost operation.
