UAW Begins Work Stoppage at General Dynamics Land Systems Facilities
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - At 4:30 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001, the United Auto Workers (UAW) began a work stoppage at three facilities operated by General Dynamics Land Systems facilities. Initial contract bargaining talks began on September 11, 2001.
The three facilities are the Lima Army Tank plant in Lima, Ohio; the Scranton plant in Eynon, Pennsylvania and the Sterling Heights Complex in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
The work stoppage occurred shortly after the expiration of the current GDLS-UAW labor agreement, which had been in effect since March 1997 and expired at 11:59 p.m. on October 14, 2001.
General Dynamics Land Systems non-union employees continue operations at these facilities to meet our military contract obligations.
