STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. - The United States Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems two modification contracts, exercising its option for the company to build 70 Abrams Integrated Management for the 21st century (AIM XXI) tanks, and procure long lead materials for an additional 135 tanks. The contracts are for $17.6 million and $29.3 million, respectively.
Work on the firm fixed price contracts will be done at the General Dynamics operated Lima Army Tank Plant in Lima, Ohio (67 percent), and Land Systems' Scranton Plant in Eynon, Pennsylvania (30 percent), and Muskegon Plant in Muskegon, Michigan (3 percent). The 70 tanks are scheduled to be delivered by June 2001.
