General Dynamics Land Systems has appointed Peter M. McVey vice president - International Tank Programs. He will head all international tank business activities including the Middle East and Far East programs.

General Dynamics Land Systems started building the first of 240 system enhanced M1A2 Abrams tanks at the Lima Army Tank Plant in Lima, Ohio.

- General Dynamics Awarded Contract For Abrams Integrated Management (AIM) Program (August 27, 1998)
The United States Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems a contract to refurbish M1A1 tanks under the Abrams Integrated Management Program for the 21st Century (AIM XXI). The firm fixed price $20.7 million contract calls for the delivery of 45 refurbished M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks by July 2000.
- General Dynamics And MTU Sign Agreement To Produce MT880 Series Engines (August 19, 1998)
General Dynamics Land Systems and Motoren- und Turbinen-Union (MTU) of Friedrichshafen,
Germany, have signed an agreement to produce and sell MTU's 880 series engines for use
in military vehicles worldwide. The engines will be produced at Land Systems' Power
Pack Center in Muskegon, Michigan.

- General Dynamics Awarded Robotic Vehicle Technologies Contract (July 30, 1998)
General Dynamics Land Systems has received a contract from the United States
Tank-automotive and Armaments Command to conduct a nine month concept design study on
robotic vehicle technologies. The $222,000 contract funds the study of the development
of promising robotic or robotic compatible ground-mobility platforms weighing from
one-half ton to twenty-four tons. Primary emphasis will be on lighter classes in
the .5 to 1.5 ton range.
- General Dynamics Completes Training OF 1st Cavalry Division On M1A2 Tanks: Moves To 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment (July 27, 1998)
General Dynamics Land Systems employees completed new equipment training of the Army's 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, on the M1A2 Abrams tank July 20, 1998. Training for soldiers in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado, begins in September 1998.
- General Dynamics' AAAV Begins Prototype Fabrication: Program Receives Industry Awards (July 13, 1998)
The Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) successfully completed a U.S. Marine Corps critical design review, June 8-11, 1998, clearing the way for fabrication of the first prototype vehicle. General Dynamics Land Systems is designing the AAAV for the Marines under a $218 million demonstration/validation contract awarded in June 1996.

General Dynamics Land Systems has appointed J. Frank Thompson vice president of Engineering Design and Development. Thompson replaces Charles R. Claysmith who retired. Thomas S. Wied replaces Thompson as vice president of Customer Service and Support.

General Dynamics Land Systems' Scranton Plant in Eynon, Pennsylvania, has been certified
to the international quality standard 9002.
- General Dynamics Delivers 1,000th M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank (May 13, 1998)
Today during a ceremony at the Lima Army Tank Plant in Lima, Ohio, General Dynamics
delivered the 1,000th M1A2 Abrams main battle tank. The milestone 1,000th delivery includes purchases of the M1A2 Abrams
tank by the U.S. Army, Royal Saudi Land Forces, and the Kuwaiti Land Forces.

The United States Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command has awarded General
Dynamics Land Systems a $106 million low-rate initial production multi-year contract to build 29 Wolverine Heavy Assault Bridge vehicles. The first Wolverine low-rate vehicle will be delivered in August 1999 and the last in December 2001. The work will be done at Land Systems' Lima, Ohio; Muskegon, Michigan; Scranton, Pennsylvania; and Tallahassee, Florida, operations with their existing work force.

certified to the international quality standard 9002 by KPMG of Short Hills, New Jersey, the system evaluator and registrar.
- General Dynamics And Anniston Army Depot Deliver First Upgraded M93A1 Fox NBCRS Vehicle TO U.S. Army (March 5, 1998)
The first of 62 M93A1 Fox Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Reconnaissance Systems (NBCRS) to be upgraded by General Dynamics Land Systems and the Anniston Army Depot in Anniston, Alabama, has been delivered to the United States for testing ahead of schedule.
