When it comes to protecting the troops, mission failure is not an option. That is why our Specialty Vehicles business works day and night to develop innovative products that provide militaries worldwide with the critical assets to save troops' lives. Specialty Vehicles is one of Land Systems' five businesses and its products and services came from the company's recent acquisition of Force Protection. Its world-class team members design, manufacture, test, deliver and support vehicles that are equipped with the best blast and ballistic systems in the defense business. Designed specifically for reconnaissance and urban operations, the main mission of these vehicles is to protect our fighting men and women from land mines, hostile fire and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Specialty Vehicles supports more than 4,000 vehicles in the field. Maximizing the survivability, performance and operational effectiveness of those vehicles is vital. We call it providing Total Life Cycle Support (TLCS). TLCS means providing worldwide distribution through an efficient supply chain to get equipment where it needs to be quickly. It means placing hunderds of Field Service Representatives around the globe who cannot only upgrade, repair, service and supply vehicles, but also train military personnel who count on them, right in the field. And, it means bolstering our strategically located TLCS support facility in Mina Abdullah, Kuwait.
As a warehousing, administrative office and depot, our Kuwait facility shortens response time for spare parts, creates better service and distribution routes throughout the area and serves as a forward logistics station for staging and the installation of upgrade kits. The ability to simultaneously train FSRs and Warfighters in critical skill areas for the operation and maintenance of our fleet from this location is also a significant advantage.
